Fuzzy Felt
Last Autumn, I decided to introduce fuzzy felt to toddler group, we get it out after snack time when we get the puzzles out. At first the toddlers weren't that interested as it was something new, but now it's very popular, especailly the Rainbow. Each set has a laminated sheet giving the toddlers ideas of what to make.
We've got four sets now so we can rotate across the terms. The base boards are made from sticky backed felt stuck on strong cardboard (80p per sheet from hobbycraft). Our felt was bought from Hobbycraft at 50p a sheet.
The themes of our fuzzy felt are Monsters / Aliens, Christmas Tree and Snowmen, Outside and Rainbow, and Ice-creams.
Monsters / Aliens
Our first set for Halloween had a monsters theme. This is very easy to make as you can just cut out random shapes.
Christmas Themed Fuzzy Felt
I'll be honest, these weren't terriably popular and they were only out for three weeks so I'm not sure they are worth the effort. E had a Christmas Tree set and she enjoyed decorating the tree with felt baubles, pipe-cleaner tinsel and sparkly pom-pom. The Christmas tree was cut out of sticky backed fuzzy felt and stuck on black card.
Outside & Rainbow Fuzzy Felt
Both of these sets have been very popular. The rainbow is made of semi-circles, each 1cm smaller than the previous. The outside fuzzy felt has houses, flowers, cars, people (I used gingerbread men cutters as templates), a tree, sun and clouds. I made about six different coloured cars that are popular with the boys, and girls like making gardens with everything.
Ice-cream Fuzzy Felt
This fuzzy felt I've just made for the summer term. Lots of ice-cream cones with different flavours of ice-cream, chocolate flakes, cherries, waffers and sauces. It's very good for discussing colours and counting "How many have cherries?".
