Bug-tastic Bugs

This craft I created in my first year running toddler group five years ago, and we've done several times since - it's always a big hit.

It's a nice simple craft to prepare once you have created your bug shape, and it's a lovely simple craft because it involves no glue!

You can make the bodies out of lots of different coloured cardboard - but it's also a great way of using of scraps of cardboard too. Our bugs are 16.5cm long and approximately 5.5cm wide at the widest bottom end. Use a hole puncher to add six leg holes - I found the kids at home really enjoy helping with this part - but just line it up for them first...

The toddlers then add a variety of different sized circle stickers, and if you buy sticky-backed googly eyes, then you can be glue free.

To make the legs, cut a pipe cleaner into three parts, and thread through the holes.

The toddlers loved their bugs and the smaller ones particularly liked adding all the stickers.
